KVRY 89.9 FM is a community radio station being brought into eastern Lewis County. The Packwood Improvement Club is working with Cascade Community Radio to install an antenna in the area. Initial broadcast will be a simulcast of KVRN 101.5 FM out of Portland. This broadcast will present a throw-back in presentation similar to the freeform rock stations of the late 1960s-early 1970s.
Plans are already in the works to have this station up and running as soon as possible. Originally we planned to have this working in October, however this has now looking more like December. Follow our Community board or check our our website regularly for updated information. https://www.facebook.com/PackwoodImprovement/
Although this station is a licensed as a non-advertising station, businesses or organizations wishing to have content broadcasted can go through an underwriting process. There are FCC rules about how this is done and what can be said. Packwood Improvement Club will work with CCR to ensure all content meets the FCC underwriting guidelines. Depending on the nature of the request, there maybe a small cost for the advertisement.
Costs will be determined based off the request. Although, these details have not yet been finalized, its likely that community events such as Craft fairs, Music in the Park, Santa Lane, etc will be free, while businesses may have a small fee to offset the cost of equipment and underwriting process.
Packwood Improvement Club will work with local organizations and businesses to create a committee responsible for creating and editing content. Persons interested in being part of this should contact Kimberly at ladygilbraith@gmail.com or phone at 425-269-6407 or reach out to the Packwood Improvement Club using our contact us links.
We are still scoping the range of equipment we will need to be able to include localized content for this station. Most content can be created with a good mic and audio editing software such as Camtasia. Content submitted for inclusion in the radio station programming will need to be clear and of high quality. MP4 or similar format can be used for final content. All submitted content will go through a QA process to ensure it meets FCC guidelines.
With the proper equipment, yes. Our goal is to be able to broadcast live community events. Depending on the equipment we need for this, it may not be possible upon launch.
We are happy to answer any additional questions you have. We believe this to be a great opportunity for our community and want everyone to enjoy the benefits of this addition to our community.
